OOAK Folk Art Doll Mexican Woman with Floral Headpiece at Marketplace a Cloth and Clay Art Doll Wall Hanger

in: Art Dolls

This OOAK (Original One of a Kind) Folk Art Doll is named "At the Marketplace". She is an Original sculpted Clay and Cloth Art Doll that was inspired by my recent research on the Tehuantepec Marketplace in Mexico, where women celebrate economic independence.

Her body itself measures 13 inches in height, though her long colorful skirt brings her height to 22 inches. Her body and arms were sewn from a bold and beautiful cotton fabric with a black background and blue and red roses, then filled with a polyester stuffing. Her face is an Original Sculpt of doll making clay, then painted with acrylics, and attached with two carnelian gemstone beads. Her hair was designed with black fiber strands and done in a long straight style. Three fabulous flowers created a floral headpiece to adorn her hair - one being a lavender fabric flower, the second being a super pale pink flower with clear glitter, and the third is a hot pink heavy fabric rolled rose flower - it's green leaf embellished with a strand of turquoise gemstone chips.

She wears two strands of gemstone necklace - one is turquoise gemstone chips, and the second is turquoise gemstone chips with alternating carnelian beads. Her Skirt is two layers. The bottom layer of her skirt is long and sewn from a lightweight cotton multi colored striped fabric, utilizing yellow, lime green, blue, soft pink, hot pink, and white. The bottom edge of the skirt layer is embellished with a bright orange ruffled trim, them adorned on top of that with a black beaded trim that dangles its beads. The second layer of her skirt is similar to an "over-skirt" or apron, sewn from a print fabric with indigenous women, flowers, and peppers....a wonderful sentiment for the Marketplace. A light blue cotton lace trim ties around the waist of the skirt. A strand of red pom pom ball trim hangs on each side of her skirt.

She wears a fabulous shoulder wrap, sewn from a black cotton fabric printed with tiny pink and yellow flowers. More of the bright orange ruffle trim adorns the bottom of the shoulder wrap.

A deep red glittered ribbon is sewn in a loop at the back of head (under her hair), and serves as the display loop so that she can be an Art Doll Wall Hanger. She is 6 inches wide x 22 inches in height.

A certificate of authenticity accompanies her, that also tells a brief story or inspiration about  her.
