Lupus Awareness Spirit Doll with Butterfly Wings and Lavender Heart Cloth and Clay Art Doll

"Lupa" is a Cloth and Clay Art Doll, created to bring Lupus Awareness to the mainstream. The illness of Lupus is highly misunderstood in our society, and there are no cures for the disease. My hope is that her creation can bring a little more interest in learning about Lupus and how it affects every aspect of one's living.

Lupa" is a very special butterfly spirit. As in this world all lovely butterflies have predators, the most important one that Lupa is concerned with is the one that resides inside her body, in fact IS her body. This one is invisible and sneaky, lurking about in search of her vulnerabilities. Without a moment's notice it can attack her, making her frail.

Unlike our responses to other predators, when we are educated on how to protect ourselves, this one remains a mystery.

Lupa has been living with this predator named Lupus for quite some time. It has robbed her of many things. She can't flutter about the way she used to with her Butterfly community. She has a lot of pain and tires easily, forcing her to find safe places to rest often. She has to be very careful about what she eats and where she plays, especially in the Sun...which wears her out quickly.

Many of her friends don't understand the changes in her, for she looks "normal", and so her circle of friends has grown smaller.

But, Lupa has a Spirit made of steel. She unfolds her wings every morning and begins again, living her life in the best way that she can. Her spirit shines through, for she is adamant that her Soul remain protected from this predator. Her best defense is Love....the love that she gives her self, which is the most important medicine in the Universe.

So, even though Lupa seems a "frail" butterfly, she is in reality... the Strongest.

Lupa was hand stitched from a bright and happy fabric of white with purple circles. This long legged beauty boasts purple butterfly wings on her shoulders. In her left hand she holds a purple heart. Her face was sculpted of clay and painted with acrylics to give her a soft and serene expression. Blue and brown fibers make up her hair do, which is loosely braided and tied in an updo. Seed bead adornments accent her hair around her face line, along with purple ribbon in her hair.

White ribbon and fibers of blue and gold create a long waist sash tied above her hips. A raw sienna paper butterfly sits upon the tie. Purple and white seed beads are sewn around her chest, down her arm, and down her leg, accented with small glass lavender hearts.

A white ribbon loop is sewn on to the back of her neck, so that Lupa can be displayed on a wall. Although she would be just as happy to rest on your bed pillow, on your nightstand, or even sit at your desk as a reminder to keep your spirit strong and beautiful.

Lupa measures 12 1/2 inches in length and 7 1/2 inches in width which includes her arm and wing span. Her story accompanies her on a lovely card with my signature and date.
